Junior Varsity Basketball Rules - Applicable to both Girls and Boys JV divisions

  1. When comprising team rosters, coaches/coordinators should be cognizant of roster size. Too few players result in forfeits which doesnt help either team. Ideally we would like roster sizes of 10 per team, but we know that is not always possible.

  1. Divisions: Our goal each year will be to have three divisions for both girls and boys JV. In the event there are not enough teams (5 or more) we may decide to combine or reduce divisions.
    1. Division I - Full Press:
      1. Four 5-minute quarters, no overtime.
      2. Defense: Teams may play full court defense the entire game unless they have a 15-point lead or more. In such a case they must play defense within the top of the arc extended. Once the offense has penetrated past the top of the arc extended the defense may defend anywhere within the half court for the remainder of the possession.
    2. Division II - Half Press:
      1. Four 5-minute quarters, no overtime
      2. Defense: Teams mayplay defense up to half court the entire game unless they have a 15 point lead. In such a case they must play defense within the top of the arc extended. Once the offense has penetrated past the top of the arc extended the defense may defens anywhere within the half court for the remainder of the possession.
    3. Division III - Top of the Arc Extended:
      1. Four 5-minute quarters, no overtime
      2. Defense: Teams must play defense within the top of the arc extended regardless of the score. Once the offense has penetrated the top of the arc extended the defense may defend anywhere in the half court for the remainder of the possession.
      3. In the final quarter provided the lead is 5 points or less both teams may play defense up to half court. If the lead is greater than 5 points, only the trailing team may play defense up to half court.
